Glen J. Rivera

Student Representative - Technical Education

Glen Rivera is a retired United States Army Staff Sergeant. He was born in Mexico and raised in Vista, California. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in September 2004. He attended Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon completion of training, he was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 12B, Combat Engineer. In June 2008, he switched from the Army National Guard to army active duty. Glen’s military experiences include: two combat deployments to Iraq; instructor for deploying soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines; was a Reconnaissance NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) for an Engineer Headquarters and Headquarters Company; his last 3 years in the military he was drill sergeant. At the end of the tree years he was diagnosed with PTSD and was medically separating from the army with an honorable discharge in 2015, he attended Bridgerland Technical College. Despite his disabilities, he completed Culinary Arts, Meat Services, and Welding. His passion to help and guide other students has given him an opportunity to be a substitute teacher at Bridgerland Technical College.
