2. Snow to welcome a new president
In January 2019, Bradley Cook was named the next president of Snow College after Gary Carlston announced his retirement. Under President Carlston’s tenure of nearly five years, more than 40 new academic certificates and awards were added to the curriculum, including a B.S. in Software Engineering and an Associate of Fine Arts. Cook will begin his presidency in May as the college’s 17th president. Previously, Cook served at Southern Utah University as provost and before that as president of the Abu Dhabi Women’s College in the United Arab Emirates. As the next Snow College president, Cook has committed to staying true to what the campus was founded on: community and rural growth.
3. Snow became a state-supported institution of higher education in 1931
Founded in 1888 by Danish members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Sanpete Stake Academy, Snow College has grown to over 5,500 students with two campuses in Ephraim and Richfield. Combined, the campuses of Snow serve a six-county area including Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne Counties. The institution underwent three name changes in a seven-year period, finally landing on what we know it as today in 1923. In 1931, Snow became a state-supported institution of higher education.
4. Snow has a 73% graduation and transfer rate
Snow enrolled 5,514 students in 2018, nearly one thousand more students than in 2013. Among those enrolled, 44% are male and 55% are female. There are over 43 student organizations, 18 academic clubs, 15 intramural sport options, and 12 performance groups at Snow College.
5. Snow entrepreneurship programs recognized as a central feeder for businesses
In a recent KSL article, Snow was recognized for its programs which allow students to specialize in entrepreneurship through their classes, and through its offering of an entrepreneurship certificate. Snow offers an Entrepreneurship Seminar series as a mentorship opportunity for students during the fall semester that brings an esteemed entrepreneur each week to campus to tell their story and teach business fundamentals for success. Snow also offers an Outdoor Leadership and Entrepreneurship program where students work together with their instructors in hands-on environments.
