Starting July 14, 2025, the Utah Board of Higher Education is accepting nominations and applications for the next president of Utah State University.
Over the past several weeks, the USU Presidential Search Committee gathered feedback from students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members through listening sessions, online comments and anonymous submissions. That input directly shaped the official job posting now included in the leadership profile and will continue to guide the committee as it evaluates nominations and applications.
“Guided by the feedback from students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members, we are seeking a proven leader who understands and embraces the unique role USU plays as a land-grant, research institution with a statewide mission,” said Steve Neeleman, search committee co-chair and member of the Utah Board of Higher Education. “This is an opportunity to lead one of Utah’s most impactful institutions and help shape the future of higher education in our state.”

The committee is committed to providing meaningful opportunities for engagement and input. Additional suggestions or comments regarding the search may be sent to usupresidentialsearch@ushe.edu or by submitting an anonymous comment online at ushe.edu/usu-presidential-search-feedback.
As required by law, the presidential search process is being conducted with an enhanced level of confidentiality to attract the strongest and most robust pool of candidates. The search committee will review applications, conduct interviews and recommend three prioritized finalists to the Utah Board of Higher Education, which will make the final selection in an open public meeting. To protect the integrity of the process and the privacy of candidates, no information about applicants or finalists will be shared publicly.
While the Utah Board of Higher Education strives to name a new president as soon as possible, it is committed to taking the necessary time to identify, vet and hire the best candidate for the position. The board anticipates it will publicly name the next president of USU during the 2025-26 academic year.
