Utah Board of Higher Education releases 2024-25 Annual Report

The Utah Board of Higher Education today released its 2024–25 Annual Report, highlighting significant achievements across the Utah System of Higher Education in strategic areas including student access, completion, financial value and economic development. The report outlines systemwide progress made over the past year, including strengthening educational pathways, modernizing programs and responding to Utah’s evolving economic needs.

“Over the past year, we have seen meaningful progress across our entire higher education system,” said Amanda Covington, Chair of the Utah Board of Higher Education. “From developing new tools that simplify the college admissions process to strengthening career pathways, our work continues to focus on creating clear, affordable and high-value opportunities for Utah students. We are grateful for the collaboration of partners across the state who share our commitment to supporting every student on their path to success.”

The report highlights several milestones from the past year, including:

  • Two new presidents appointed: Brad L. Mortensen, Utah State University, and Shane B. Smeed, Utah Tech University.
  • Progress on statewide Direct Admissions and the continued development of the Admit Utah platform, designed to simplify the path from high school to college.
  • A historic systemwide transition in technical education from clock to credit hours, creating a unified academic structure across all 16 USHE institutions.
  • The approval of accelerated bachelor’s degree programs at Weber State University and Utah Valley University, making Utah the first public higher education system in the nation authorized to offer these pathways.
  • Expansion of program alignment and updated roles-and-missions policies to reduce duplication, clarify institutional offerings and better serve students and employers.
  • Continued growth of Talent Ready Utah programs, including the launch of the Utah Talent Hub, connecting students with work-based learning opportunities.
  • Continued investment in shared services, data-driven decision-making and innovations in student success.
