How many degrees and certificates do Utah colleges and universities award?

USHE awarded 31,741 degrees and certificates in 2012-13 (most recent data available), which amounts to about ¾ of all degrees and certificates awarded in Utah each year. The number of degrees and certificates awarded each year by Utah colleges and universities has increased 18% between 2008 and 2013 (most recent data available).  The following tables illustrate how much degrees have increased, including a comparison with Utah’s private non-profit institutions (BYU, Westminster College, LDS Business College).


Some additional highlights of interest:

  • In 2011-12, USHE institutions hit a milestone in awarding more than 30,000 degrees and certificates in one year.
  • The institution with the greatest increase in total annual degrees/certificates awarded was Utah Valley University growing 34% (1,170) from 2008-2013, followed by Utah State University and Weber State University.
  • Among public and private non-profit institutions, USHE awards 76% of degrees and certificates.
  • The type of degree that increased the most between 2008 and 2013 were Bachelor’s degrees, by 2,520 awards. However, certificates of less than one year decreased by 75 awards during that same time.
