New Century Scholarship
Recipients from Class of 2021
Application Information
This information is only applicable to applicants who graduated high school in the class of 2021. Please read below for details on award information and how to maintain eligibility for the New Century Scholarship. If you have questions, please contact the scholarship office directly.
Information about eligible students is sent to their respective colleges to determine the award amount they qualify for. The award is applied towards tuition and fees after other state aid has been awarded to the student. The maximum amount a student may receive is $1,000 per semester for up to 4 semesters. Awards are calculated based on other state aid the student receives and where they attend college. Keep in mind that the New Century Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.
To ensure your continued eligibility for the New Century Scholarship, it’s essential to adhere to the following guidelines:
Consistent Enrollment: Maintain uninterrupted enrollment at an eligible Utah college or university throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.
Credit Load Requirement: To be eligible for a semester payment, students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits each semester. If a student receives a semester payment, they must successfully complete at least 12 credits to remain eligible for future disbursements. If a student enrolls only part-time at an eligible institution, they can remain eligible for future payments but may not receive a disbursement for that semester. If students do not enroll at all, they must obtain an approved leave of absence. See the Leave of Absence tab for more information.
Academic Performance: Students who receive an award disbursement must sustain a 3.3 semester GPA by successfully completing 12 credits every semester.
Probationary Status: Earning a semester GPA below 3.3 will result in being placed on probationary status. It’s important to note that you can still receive the New Century Scholarship while on probation. However, if you earn a semester GPA lower than 3.3 for a second consecutive semester, you will forfeit the scholarship.
Your college will automatically report your enrollment and GPA information to the Scholarship office each semester, eliminating the need for you to submit enrollment documentation. Nevertheless, failing to meet these eligibility criteria may lead to the forfeiture of your scholarship funds. Keep in mind that the New Century Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.
If you’re taking a break from continuous enrollment during the Fall or Spring semesters, the following actions are required to maintain scholarship eligibility:
Coordinate with Your College: Collaborate closely with your college’s financial aid/scholarship team to secure an approved leave of absence. Keep in mind that each college establishes its own specific deadlines and guidelines for this process.
Adhere to College Requirements: Ensure that you adhere to your college’s specific requirements for a leave of absence to maintain your eligibility for the New Century Scholarship.
Deferred Enrollment and Scholarships: Ensure that your enrollment and your scholarships are properly deferred during your leave of absence.
As with deferment, consider submitting a Student Information Release Form to facilitate information sharing if someone is helping you manage your account. You are responsible for managing your account even while on a deferment or leave of absence. Be sure to check your account regularly or have an authorized person do it for you. Keep in mind that the New Century Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.
If you plan to transfer colleges:
Notify:
- Notify the New Century Scholarship office before the start of the semester at your new college. We’ll assist you in transferring the scholarship.
 - Notify both your new and prior colleges about the transfer.
 - Work with your current college’s financial aid office to ensure any remaining funds are returned to our scholarship office.

Upload transfer documentation into your student portal:
- Upload a proof of enrollment document to verify your enrollment at a new eligible college/university.
 - Upload a proof of completion document to verify that you successfully completed at least 12 credits and received at least a 3.3 GPA during your last semester at the previous college.
 - If you’ve just returned from a leave of absence, include documentation proving you received an approved leave of absence from your prior college (e.g., an email confirmation indicating the start and end dates or a leave of absence document from your college student portal).

Transfer Document Criteria:
The proof of enrollment and proof of completion documents need to include the following information:
- Your name
 - The titles of enrolled courses
 - The semester (i.e., “Fall 2025”)
 - The name of the college/university where you are/were enrolled
 - Your student college/university ID number (may be handwritten)
 - Total number of credit hours enrolled

How to Save Documents as PDF (Using Google Chrome):
- To save the document as a PDF follow these steps when using Google Chrome:
 - Pull up your document on your college account
 - Right-click and select Print or click Control P (Make sure Headers and Footers are checked under “Options”).
 - Click “Change” to change your printer and select “Save as a PDF”.
 - Click “Save”, this will pull it up as a PDF. Then you can save it and upload it to your scholarship account.
