Class of 2021
Information about eligible students is sent to their respective colleges to determine the award amount they qualify for. The award is applied toward tuition and fees after other state aid has been awarded to the student. The maximum amount a student may receive is $1,000 per semester for up to 4 semesters. Individual awards are calculated based on other state aid the student receives and where they attend college. Keep in mind that the Regents’ Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.
To ensure your continued eligibility for the Regents’ Scholarship, it’s essential to adhere to the following guidelines:
Consistent Enrollment: Maintain uninterrupted enrollment at an eligible Utah college or university during Fall and Spring semesters. (Fall and Winter semesters for those attending Brigham Young University and Ensign College.)
Credit Load Requirement: To be eligible for a semester payment, students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits each semester. If a student receives a semester payment, they must successfully complete at least 12 credits to remain eligible for future disbursements. If a student enrolls only part-time at an eligible institution, they can remain eligible for future payments but may not receive a disbursement for that semester. If students do not enroll at all, they must obtain an approved leave of absence. See the Leave of Absence tab for more information.
Academic Performance: Students who receive an award disbursement must earn a 3.0 semester GPA during the term they receive a payment.
Probationary Status: Earning a semester GPA below 3.0 will result in being placed on probationary status. It’s important to note that you can still receive the Regents’ Scholarship while on probation. However, if you earn a semester GPA lower than 3.0 for a second semester in which you receive a payment, you will forfeit the scholarship.
Your college will automatically report your enrollment and GPA information to the State Scholarship Office. Failing to meet these eligibility criteria may lead to the forfeiture of your scholarship funds. Keep in mind that the Regents’ Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.
If you’re taking a break from continuous enrollment during the Fall or Spring semesters (Winter for BYU and Ensign College), the following actions are required to maintain scholarship eligibility:
Coordinate with Your College: Collaborate closely with your college’s financial aid/scholarship team to secure an approved leave of absence. Keep in mind that each college establishes its own specific deadlines and guidelines for this process.
Adhere to College Requirements: Ensure that you adhere to your college’s specific requirements for a leave of absence to maintain your eligibility for the Regents’ Scholarship.
Deferred Enrollment and Scholarships: Ensure that your enrollment and your scholarships are properly deferred during your leave of absence.
As with deferment, consider submitting a Student Information Release Form to the Regents’ Scholarship office to facilitate information sharing if someone is helping you manage your account. You are responsible for managing your account even while on a deferment or leave of absence. Be sure to check your account regularly or have an authorized person do it for you. Keep in mind that the Regents’ Scholarship is applicable for up to four semesters but expires five years from your high school graduation date.

- Upload a proof of completion document to verify that you successfully completed at least 12 credits and received at least a 3.0 GPA during that last semester at your previous college.
- For assistance finding an acceptable document, see the Proof of Enrollment Instructions.
- If you’ve just returned from a leave of absence, include documentation showing you received an approved leave of absence from your prior college (e.g., an email confirmation indicating the start and end dates or a leave of absence document from your college student portal).
Transfer Document Criteria:
The proof of enrollment and proof of completion documents need to include the following information:
