Technology plays a major role in higher education today, impacting everything from the delivery of course instruction and student experience in the classroom, to interaction with instructors and peers. Of the 167,317 students enrolled at a Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) institution in Fall 2014, over one in three (35.7%) are participating in some form of technology-delivered instruction. This includes the 45,178 students (27% of total) enrolled in at least one online class.

2013-14 Institution Technology Highlights

• UofU  grew to over 31,500 online enrollments in the past year, a 7.6% annual increase.  A new strategic online programs development focus will add 5 online baccalaureate online programs with courses beginning Fall 2015.

• USU’s online enrollments grew by over 33.5% from Fall ’13 to Fall’14 with corresponding growth in the number of online courses and programs.  In 2013-14 USU launched its new online FLEx program which allows students to take high-enrolled, general education courses in 7-week and/or self-paced schedules, promoting retention and completion.

• WSU offered 16 different hybrid undergraduate courses that followed a 7-week delivery schedule with 50% of the coursework online, and 210 courses that utilized some variation of hybrid delivery replacing at least 20% of seat time, or one class period, with online instruction.

• SUU has completed its online AAS in Paralegal Studies and is working to complete online BS degrees in Accountancy and Business Management.

• Snow College completed a new strategic plan that includes the development of additional online and IVC offerings, and the updating of existing online courses with the goal of adding additional online degrees.
