USHE’s Talent Ready Utah Awards $1.8M in Deep Tech Funding

Talent Ready Utah, housed within the Utah System of Higher Education, is pleased to announce the approval of four new Deep Tech Initiative awards for spring 2023, providing funding for expanded deep tech programs at USHE institutions.

Grants totaling $1,800,091 will be used to fund the following purposes at Utah colleges:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Southern Utah University
  • Neurotechnology Certificates and Neuroengineering Graduate Degree Programs, University of Utah
  • Preparing Utah’s Workforce: from integrated photonics to quantum computing, Utah State University
  • Training Life Sciences Graduates, Utah Tech University

These awards will facilitate collaborations that create expanded, multidisciplinary programs or stackable credential programs in undergraduate and graduate studies at USHE institutions. These programs will prepare students to be workforce participants in jobs requiring deep technology skills.

“The Utah System of Higher Education aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that Utah’s workforce is well-equipped to excel in emerging fields,” said Dave Woolstenhulme, commissioner of higher education. “Each of these institutions has demonstrated excellence in developing and implementing deep technology programs, and we are excited to see these programs expand at our institutions, further enhancing the educational offerings for our students.”
