Since 1977, Utah’s Governor has appointed a public college and/or university student to represent Utah students on the state’s Board of Higher Education. Under the new Utah Board of Higher Education, there are now two student members, one representing the state’s degree-granting institutions (research universities, regional universities, and community colleges) and one representing the state’s technical colleges.
Student Board members are voting members and serve at the Governor’s appointment for one year. Any eligible USHE student is encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be enrolled at a public research university, regional university, or community college during the 2021-22 academic year. Students enrolled at a technical college do not need to fill out the form below and instead should contact their administration offices to apply to serve as a representative of the state’s technical colleges.
- Student body presidents serving during the 2021-22 academic year are not eligible for this position.
- The student Board member is expected to attend all meetings of the Board. A current meeting schedule is found on the Board Meetings and Events page.
- Applicants are requested to submit a letter of interest, a resume, and two letters of recommendation.
Student body presidents will vote to select three matriculated students as finalists from among the pool of applicants for consideration by the Governor. All applicants will be notified before June 30, 2021. The deadline to apply is April 5, 2021.
