Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship Program

The Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship Program is a state-funded scholarship program to provide funding to recent high school graduates who intend to work as public safety officers in Utah when eligible. 

  • Eligible Students:
    • Aspiring public safety officers
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Graduate from high school
    • When eligible, enroll in a basic training course at a state-certified academy
    • Enroll in a qualifying degree program at an eligible institution
    • Commit to working as a certified peace officer in Utah for a minimum of five years after POST certification
    • Not a recipient of a PSOCAG award for the same degree
    • Complete the FAFSA in accordance with Board Policy R623
  • Eligible Uses:
    • Tuition, fees, required textbooks, and POST training and certification
  • Award:
    • Varies based on available funding

      • Tooele Technical College
      • Uintah Basin Technical College
    • Private, non-profit Utah institutions:
      • Brigham Young University (Provo campus)
      • Ensign College
      • Western Governors University
      • Westminster University         
  • Application Period:
    • 2025-26 application (new and renewing students)
      • Opens – January 2, 2025
      • Priority deadline – January 27, 2025
      • Final deadline – March 21, 2025
