Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship Program

The Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship Program is a state-funded scholarship program that provides funding to high school graduates who intend to work as public safety officers in Utah upon eligibility.  

  • Eligible Students: 
    • Aspiring public safety officers

       

  • Eligibility Requirements: 
    • Graduated from high school 
    • When eligible, enroll in a basic training course at a state-certified academy 
    • Enroll in a qualifying criminal justice-related program at an eligible institution 
    • Commit to working as a certified peace officer in Utah for a minimum of five years after POST certification 
  • Eligible Uses: 
    • Tuition, fees, required textbooks, and POST training and certification

    • Varies based on available funding

       

  • Award Duration: 
    • Up to four academic years

    • Mountainland Technical College 
    • Ogden-Weber Technical College 
    • Southwest Technical College  
    • Tooele Technical College 
    • Uintah Basin Technical College 
    • Private, non-profit Utah institutions: 
    • Brigham Young University (Provo campus) 
    • Ensign College 
    • Western Governors University

    • 2025-26 application (new and renewing students)
